Data Gathering (Section: System Analysis & Design)

Dear Students ,
We have been learning about various data gathering methods an analyst would use for eliciting user requirements.

Here are a few

  1. Interviewing the End Users
    interviews can be either (Structured ,Semi Structured or Unstructured) or (formal or informal) or (Individual or panel )
    Questions can be asked - Open ended or closed ended
  2. Conducting Surveys with Questionnaires

    closed ended questions can be - Yes/No , Multiple choice , Checkboxes

  3. Observing the Operational Environment of your client
    observations can be covert or reported
  4. Inspecting current documents
    Documents such as Logs , Worksheets, Meeting minutes , Reports , current website , letters , forms , notices
  5. Researching on similar systems on the web or similar orgnizations
  6. Prototyping
    thro away , evolutionary
  7. Asking expert opinion - sometimes we call it Delphi technique
